Hadith 12192

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I was walking in Paradise when I saw a palace. I asked, "O Jibreel! Whose is this?" while I was hoping that it would be mine. He said, "It is Umar's." Then I walked a little further and saw a palace even more beautiful than the first. I asked, "Jibreel! Whose is this?" while I was expecting that it would be mine. He informed me that it is Umar's (may Allah be pleased with him), and in it are wide-eyed maidens (houris) as well. O Umar! If your sense of honor had not prevented me, I would have entered it. Upon hearing this, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) began to weep and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I cannot be possessive over you."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam took into consideration the sense of honor, intensity, and fervor of Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu, whereas the purpose of his (Umar’s) response was that Allah Ta’ala granted him elevation because of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and bestowed guidance through him—so how could he possibly feel jealousy over the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam?
