Hadith 12187

وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ”اللَّهُمَّ أَعِزَّ الْإِسْلَامَ بِأَحَبِّ هَذَيْنِ الرَّجُلَيْنِ إِلَيْكَ بِأَبِي جَهْلٍ أَوْ بِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ فَكَانَ أَحَبَّهُمَا إِلَى اللَّهِ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: O Allah! Grant honor to Islam through whichever of Abu Jahl and Umar bin Khattab is more beloved to You. Allah Almighty found Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, to be more beloved among them.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Allah Ta’ala valued this supplication of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and through Sayyiduna Umar ibn al-Khattab (radi Allahu anhu), granted Islam dominance. This is a manifest proof of the greatness and truthfulness of Sayyiduna Umar ibn al-Khattab (radi Allahu anhu), that he was sought for the ascendancy of Islam.
