Humaid bin Abdur Rahman says that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, at that time Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was in a suburb of Madinah Munawwarah. So he came and removed the sheet from the blessed face of the Prophet, kissed him, and said: "May my parents be sacrificed for you, how pure you are, whether alive or deceased. By the Lord of the Ka'bah! Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) has passed away." Then the narrator mentioned the hadith, an excerpt of which is as follows: Then Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) walked until they reached the Ansar people. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke and mentioned all the virtues that had been revealed regarding the Ansar and what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had said about them, not leaving out anything. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding you: If people walk in one valley and the Ansar walk in another valley, I will walk in the valley of the Ansar. O Sa'd! You were also present when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said that the Quraysh are the rightful and deserving people of this authority; the righteous are subject to the righteous Quraysh, and the wicked are subject to the wicked Quraysh." Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You have spoken the truth; you will be the ruler and we will be your ministers."
