It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, the Ansar said: "One leader will be from among us and one from among you, the Muhajireen." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went to them and said: "O group of Ansar! Do you not know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to lead the people in prayer?" They said: "Yes, we know." Then he said: "So then, who among you has the courage to stand ahead of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him)?" The Ansar said: "We seek Allah's refuge from standing ahead of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him)."
