Hadith 12136

It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Ubada bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that we would listen and obey the ruler in hardship and ease, in vigor and laziness, and even when others are given preference over us, and that we would not dispute with the people of authority regarding their authority, and that we would stand for the truth wherever it may be, and we would not fear the blame of any blamer for the sake of Allah Almighty.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The ahadith are clear in their meaning that in every circumstance, obedience to the leader and ruler of the time is obligatory, as long as he does not command disobedience to Allah Ta'ala and the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. His leadership and kingship should be considered legitimate and worthy of obedience until clear disbelief becomes apparent in him. In the last part of this hadith, an extremely important admonition has been given: Muslims should remain steadfast upon the unalterable rulings of the Shari‘ah; there should be steadfastness and seriousness in their way of life; they should not be influenced by time and place. Only that should be accepted as truth which is considered truth by the Shari‘ah, and wherever there is a need to proclaim it, it should be expressed without any hesitation.
