It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to take the pledge from people that they would listen to the ruler and obey him. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself would say: As much as you have strength and ability. One narrator said: Thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would prompt us and remind us that as much as you have strength (you will obey the ruler accordingly).

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … That is, obedience to the ruler’s command is only required as long as a person is able and capable of fulfilling it; if the ruler’s command is beyond one’s ability, then obedience to it is not required.
In reality, this was from the mercy and compassion of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, that he would stipulate the condition of ability and capacity in the pledge (bay‘ah), so that if, due to some necessity or legitimate (shar‘i) excuse, a person had to break any clause, the agreement of the pledge would still remain intact.
