Hadith 12095

Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: Seek Allah's refuge from the era after seventy years and from the rule of boys.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu narrates that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “The destruction of my Ummah will be at the hands of the young men of Quraysh.” (Bukhari)

The narration of Ibn Abi Shaybah states that Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu would walk in the marketplace and say: “O Allah! Do not let me reach the year sixty Hijri, nor the rule of the young men.”

In this, it is indicated that the emergence of the rule of the first young man would occur in 60 AH, and so it happened: Yazid ibn Muawiyah became caliph and remained so until sixty-four Hijri. It was also his habit that he would depose elders from various regions and appoint his young relatives as governors. After his death, his son Muawiyah became governor, who died a few months later.

Destruction here means that they would fight people in pursuit of leadership and kingship, and because of this, corruption would enter the affairs of the people, and successive tribulations (fitan) would appear—and so it happened, and heart-rending incidents took place.

From this hadith, it is also understood that one should refrain from rebelling against oppressive rulers, because Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu knew the names of these rulers and had also informed that the destruction of the Ummah would be at their hands, yet despite this, he did not command rebellion. Because, due to rebellion, not only would destruction increase, but there would also be a distancing from the matters of obedience. Therefore, Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu chose the lesser harm and the easier course.
