Hadith 12088

عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ وَعَمْرِو بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنِ الْمِقْدَادِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ وَأَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَا إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ”إِنَّ الْأَمِيرَ إِذَا ابْتَغَى الرِّيبَةَ فِي النَّاسِ أَفْسَدَهُمْ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Miqdad bin Aswad and Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a ruler starts searching for the faults of the people, he corrupts them.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Any ruler who seeks the welfare and goodness of his subjects will not search for their faults and shortcomings without a significant need or benefit. The Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to strive to conceal faults.
