Hadith 12079

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Soon, some rulers will be imposed over you; you will see that they give preference to those who are not deserving over those who are deserving. The Companions said: O Messenger of Allah! What should a person do who finds himself in such circumstances? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Fulfill the rights that are upon you, and ask Allah for your own rights.

In another narration: After me, you will see that preference will be given to the unworthy and undeserving, and you will see such actions that you will not approve of. We said: In such a situation, what do you command us to do? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Continue to fulfill the rights that are upon you, and keep asking Allah for your own rights.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The most important responsibility of the subjects is that, in every time and place, they should heed the wise, prudent, and contextually relevant instructions of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam); there is no need to become emotional. If the rulers are not fulfilling the rights of their people, this does not mean that the subjects should also resort to oppression and neglect the rights of their rulers, because the result of such emotions is nothing but tyranny, oppression, and civil strife. It is better to be patient over the denial of rights than to destroy generations.

The perfection and beauty of the Shari‘ah of the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is that it provides guidance for dealing with circumstances at all times and in every place.
