It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Soon you will covet leadership and rulership, but this thing will be a cause of regret and remorse on the Day of Resurrection. It is very good in terms of suckling, but very bad in terms of weaning. In another narration, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Soon you will covet leadership and rulership, but on the Day of Resurrection its outcome will be blame and regret. It seems very good while suckling, and very bad after weaning.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Imam Albani rahimahullah says: Abu al-Hasan al-Sindi rahimahullah says: By "fa ni‘mat al-murdi‘ah" (the nursing woman is excellent), what is meant is the state of life, which leads to leadership, and by "wa bi’sat al-fatimah" (the weaning woman is very bad), what is meant is the state in which the chain of leadership is severed, and that is death. The meaning of these two phrases is that the life of those in authority is very good, but death is very bad. And Allah knows best. (Sahihah: 2530)
In this world, the greatest responsibilities fall upon the leader and ruler of the time. They must fulfill the religious needs of every individual in their subjects, practically implement the commands of the Qur’an and Hadith in their dominion, take up the office of leading the mosques, continue the series of conquests if the opportunity arises, fulfill the financial and worldly needs of every household, protect the subjects from the enemies of Islam, transmit Islam from previous generations to the next, and not allow any individual among the subjects to oppress another individual… In short, they must assume the succession of Sayyiduna ‘Umar radi Allahu anhu.
But who will fulfill these responsibilities, especially in this era, where people ascend to the thrones of office for the sake of indulgence? The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam spoke the truth, that the moments of leadership and rulership will create an atmosphere of regret and longing, but at that time, when regret will be of no benefit.
