Hadith 12055

It is narrated from Abu al-Hasan that Amr bin Murrah said to Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him): O Muawiyah! I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever, as a ruler, closes his door to those in need and the poor, Allah Almighty closes the doors of the heavens to him at the time of his need, want, and poverty. After this, Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed a person to look after the needs of the people.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Certainly, the reason for the awe and subjugation of Muslim countries and their rulers before the leaders of disbelief is none other than this: the needy and destitute have no right whatsoever to approach Muslim officials, whereas the condition of the leader of the Prophets and Messengers was as follows:

Sayyiduna Abu Darda radi Allahu anhu says that I heard the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam say: “Seek out the weak for me, for indeed you are provided for and aided because of your weak ones.” (Abu Dawud: 1/405, Nasa’i: 2/65, Tirmidhi: 3/32)

Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah writes: People are aided because of the weak; this support and victory is not due to the persons of the righteous themselves, but rather due to their supplication (du‘a) and sincerity (ikhlas), as is mentioned in an incident when Sayyiduna Sa‘d radi Allahu anhu began to think that he had superiority over those Companions who possessed less wealth than him. The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Indeed, Allah helps this Ummah because of its weak: by their supplications, their prayers, and their sincerity.” (Sunan Nasa’i: 2/65, al-Fawa’id li Tamam: Q 105/2, al-Hilyah li Abi Nu‘aym: 5/26)

The chain of this narration is authentic according to the conditions of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and in fact, besides the required explanation, this narration is also found in Sahih Bukhari, and likewise, Imam Ahmad (1/163) has also narrated it. (Sahihah: 779) The meaning of this hadith is that there is more sincerity in the acts of worship and supplications of the weak, and they find pleasure in the remembrance of Allah, because their hearts are free from the love and desire of the world. Their only objective is that their supplications be accepted and their deeds be purified. The aforementioned difference between the rich and the poor, and the strong and the weak, is not acceptable to the rich and strong, because they have not gone through these experiences and they have never even realized what kind of relationship these people have with Allah.
