Abu al-Shamakh al-Azdi narrates from one of his cousins, who was among the Companions, that he went to Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever is made a ruler over people and he closes his door to the poor, the oppressed, or the needy, Allah Almighty will close the doors of His mercy to him at the time of his need and poverty, while he will be in dire need of His mercy.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The reality that has been stated in this blessed hadith has been thoroughly clarified by the authorities in power of the present age. One who commits oppression and injustice against the poor and the helpless will never breathe a sigh of relief, provided that he understands what relief and distress truly mean.
Even the Leader of both worlds, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, was not permitted to show displeasure at the arrival of a destitute and blind Companion such as Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umm Maktum, radi Allahu anhu. Yet, in the present era, a person of no worth does not even consider it tolerable to converse with the disabled and the handicapped. Allah Ta’ala Himself will decide.
