Hadith 12046

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The Imam and ruler is a shield, behind whom fighting is done against the enemy and by means of whom one is protected from the enemy’s attacks. If he commands piety and acts with justice, he will be rewarded for these deeds, and if he commands anything else, he will bear its sin.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The foundation of all communal affairs rests upon the imam and the ruler. If the ruler is righteous, then even the mischievous elements are subdued; however, if the ruler is evil, then the people of virtue withdraw into the background.
