Hadith 12017

It is narrated from Abdur Razzaq that the people of Makkah used to say that Ibn Jurayj learned the method of prayer from Ata bin Abi Rabah (may Allah have mercy on him), who learned it from Ibn al-Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him), who learned it from Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and he learned the method of prayer from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). I have not seen anyone perform prayer better than Ibn Jurayj (may Allah have mercy on him).

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Ibn Jurayj’s name is ‘Abdul-Malik ibn ‘Abdul-‘Aziz ibn Jurayj. His kunyah is Abu’l-Walid and Abu Khalid. He is among the Tabi‘ al-Tabi‘in (the generation after the Followers). Imam ‘Abd al-Razzaq says: Whenever I saw Ibn Jurayj performing prayer, it became evident that he truly feared Allah, the Exalted. He lived for one hundred years and passed away in the year 150 AH. He is among the narrators of the six canonical books. In this chapter, the virtue of Ibn Jurayj rahimahullah is mentioned, that his manner of prayer was enviable. Imam Tirmidhi has narrated among his virtues that it is reported from Makki ibn Ibrahim: We were in the presence of Ibn Jurayj rahimahullah when a beggar came to him and asked for something. Ibn Jurayj said to his servant: Give him a dinar. The servant said: At this moment, I have only one dinar. If I give this to him, then you and all your household will remain hungry. Upon hearing this, Ibn Jurayj expressed displeasure and said: Give it to him anyway. It is narrated from Makki that while we were still in his presence, a man came carrying a letter and a pouch. It had been sent by one of his friends. In the letter, it was written: I am sending you fifty dinars. Ibn Jurayj opened the pouch, and when he counted the dinars, they were fifty-one. Ibn Jurayj rahimahullah said to his servant: You gave one dinar in the way of Allah, so Allah returned that very dinar to you and sent an additional fifty dinars along with it.
