It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) that some people from Banu Hashim went to the house of Sayyidah Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her), who at that time was married to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). While those people were sitting there, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived. When he saw those people at his wife's house, he disliked it. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned this incident to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "I did not see anything objectionable, rather I saw only good." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah has protected Asma from such matters." After this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood on the pulpit and said: "From today, no man should go alone to the house of a woman whose husband is not at home, except that there are one or two other men with him."
