Hadith 11945

It is narrated from Abdul Malik bin Umair that when Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) dismissed Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) and appointed Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) as the governor of Syria, Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The trustworthy and most reliable man of this Ummah has been sent to you. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that the trustworthy one of this Ummah is Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I also heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that Khalid bin Walid is one of the swords of Allah and the best individual of his family.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It appears as though Allah Ta’ala has made Sayyiduna Khalid ibn al-Walid radi Allahu anhu and victory inseparable from one another, and due to the series of victories achieved by Sayyiduna Khalid radi Allahu anhu, some people fell into the trial (fitnah) of believing that as long as Sayyiduna Khalid radi Allahu anhu was leading, victory was certain. The firm monotheism (tawhid) of Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu required that Sayyiduna Khalid radi Allahu anhu be removed from command, so that people would learn the lesson that victory and help come only from Allah Ta’ala. As for the reason why Sayyiduna Umar ibn al-Khattab removed Sayyiduna Khalid ibn al-Walid from command, one opinion has been mentioned by our esteemed researcher.
