Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when Allah Almighty caused the Banu Hawazin to be defeated at Hunayn, the Messenger of Allah appointed Sayyiduna Abu Amir Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) over a cavalry detachment to pursue the fleeing polytheists. He set out after them, and I was with him. Sayyiduna Abu Amir's (may Allah be pleased with him) horse quickly took him ahead of the rest, and he caught up with Ibn Duraid. But Ibn Duraid killed Sayyiduna Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) and seized his flag. Then I pursued Ibn Duraid, killed him, and took the flag back into my possession, and I returned with the people. The Messenger of Allah saw the flag being carried and said: "O Abu Musa! Has Abu Amir been killed?" I replied: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) raising both his hands and supplicating: "O Allah, make Your beloved servant Ubaid Abu Amir among those on the Day of Resurrection who have many righteous deeds and countless elevated ranks."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The correct context of this narration is as follows, which is found in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa radi Allahu anhu, who says: When the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam finished (the battle of) Hunayn, he sent Abu Amir as the commander of an army towards the people of Autas. He encountered Duraid ibn as-Simmah, and Duraid was killed, and Allah defeated his companions. Abu Musa said: The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam also sent me with Abu Amir. Abu Amir was struck in his knee by an arrow shot by a man from the tribe of Jusham, and the arrow became lodged in his knee. I went to him and asked, “Uncle! Who shot you?” He indicated to Abu Musa radi Allahu anhu and said, “That is my killer, the one who shot me.” So I set out in pursuit of him. When he saw me, he fled. I chased after him and kept saying to him, “Are you not ashamed? Why do you not stand your ground?” He stopped, and we exchanged two blows with our swords, and I killed him. Then I said to Abu Amir, “Allah has destroyed your killer.” He said, “Remove this arrow.” So I removed it, and water (fluid) gushed out from the wound. He said, “O son of my brother! Convey my salam to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and ask him to seek forgiveness for me.” Abu Amir appointed me as the commander over the people in his place, and after a short while, he passed away (as a martyr). I returned and went to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, who was in his house lying on a bed made of palm fibers, and there was such a thin mattress on it that the marks of the bed’s fibers had appeared on his back and sides. I informed him of our situation and the situation of Abu Amir, and (I said that) he had asked me to request you to seek forgiveness for him. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam called for water, performed ablution (wudu), then raised his hands and said: “O Allah! Forgive Ubayd Abu Amir.” (His hands were raised so high that) I could see the whiteness of his armpits. Then he said: “O Allah! Grant him superiority over many of Your creation on the Day of Resurrection.” I said, “Please supplicate for me as well.” The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “O Allah! Forgive the sins of Abdullah ibn Qais and admit him on the Day of Resurrection to an honorable place.” Abu Burdah says that one of these supplications was for Sayyiduna Abu Amir radi Allahu anhu and the other was for Sayyiduna Abu Musa radi Allahu anhu.
