Hadith 11936

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of Uhud, Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) was standing in front of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) shooting arrows at the disbelievers, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was standing behind him, taking him as a shield. Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) was a very skilled archer. When he would shoot an arrow, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would raise his head to see where the arrow landed, and Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) would proudly say: "O Messenger of Allah, may my parents be sacrificed for you! This is how archery is done. By Allah! No arrow will reach you; my neck is before you." Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) would put himself before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and say: "O Messenger of Allah! I am strong, so send me for your tasks and command me as you wish."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … How remarkable is the love for the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, which Allah Ta’ala placed in the hearts of the noble Companions radi Allahu anhum. If it became necessary to sacrifice their lives in defense of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, this was not a difficult matter for these sanctified souls. The name of Sayyiduna Abu Talhah al-Ansari radi Allahu anhu is Zayd bin Sahl bin Aswad bin Haram; he belonged to the Ansar tribe of Khazraj. He participated in Badr and all subsequent battles. He was the husband of Sayyida Umm Sulaym radi Allahu anha, the mother of Sayyiduna Anas radi Allahu anhu. When Sayyiduna Abu Talhah sent a marriage proposal to Sayyida Umm Sulaym, she replied: “A man like you should not be rejected, but the reason is that I am a Muslim and you are a disbeliever, so you are not lawful for me. If you accept Islam, that will be my dowry (mahr).” Thus, he became Muslim, and that was established as her dowry. He passed away in 34 AH, and Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu led his funeral prayer. According to one narration, he lived for forty years after the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas radi Allahu anhu that during a military expedition, he passed away at sea, and a place for his burial was found on an island after seven days. Until that time, no change had occurred in his body.
