Hadith 11933

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the eyes of Sayyiduna Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) — that is, his gaze — had turned upwards. (In fact, he was passing away or had passed away and his eyes were open.) The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came. He (peace and blessings be upon him) closed his eyes and said: When the soul is taken, the gaze follows it. Hearing this, the family members began to weep. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Pray only for good for yourselves, for whatever you say, the angels say Ameen to it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself prayed as follows:

O Allah, forgive Abu Salamah and raise his rank among the rightly guided, and be his successor among those who remain after him, and forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, expand his grave and illuminate it for him.

(Translation of the supplication: O Allah! Forgive Abu Salamah and raise his ranks among the rightly guided, and be his successor among those who remain after him, and O Lord of the worlds! Forgive him and us, O Allah! Expand his grave and make it bright for him.)
