It is narrated from Ismail bin Ubaidullah that Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) states that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Soon you people will migrate towards the land of Sham, and it will be conquered at your hands, and among you a disease like a piece of flesh (i.e., plague) will enter, which will affect the lower part of a person's abdomen. Allah Almighty will grant people the rank of martyrdom through this disease and will purify their deeds. O Allah! If You know that Mu'adh bin Jabal truly heard this hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), then grant him and his family an abundant share of this disease. Consequently, those people were afflicted by the plague, and not one of them survived. Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) had his index finger wounded, so he used to say that he would not like his finger to be saved and for him to receive red camels.
