Hadith 11859

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) as his deputy in Madinah Munawwarah on two occasions. I saw him on the day of Qadisiyyah holding a black flag.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sayyiduna Amr ibn Umm Maktum radi Allahu anhu was a noble Companion. He was blind, and he also had the honor of being the muezzin of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. The people of Madinah referred to him as Abdullah, while the people of Iraq called him Amr. He was a maternal cousin of Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyidah Khadijah radi Allahu anha. He was among the earliest emigrants (muhajirun). He was honored with martyrdom in the Battle of Qadisiyyah. Some scholars have said that he was the standard-bearer of the Muslims in Qadisiyyah, and that he was not martyred there, but rather passed away in Madinah al-Munawwarah after returning from Qadisiyyah. And Allah knows best. The opening verses of Surah ‘Abasa were revealed concerning him. Despite being blind, he possessed the spirit of jihad.
