It is narrated from Salim bin Abi J'ad that Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) summoned some companions (may Allah be pleased with them), including Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him), and said: I want to ask you something, and my intention is that you tell me the truth. I ask you by Allah: Do you know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to give preference to the Quraysh over other people when giving something? And among the Quraysh, he used to give preference to Banu Hashim? Upon hearing this, the people remained silent. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If the keys to Paradise were in my hands, I would give the keys to Banu Umayyah until all these people entered Paradise. Then he sent a message to Sayyiduna Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said to them: Shall I tell you something about him (i.e., Ammar, may Allah be pleased with him)? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was holding my hand, and we were walking in Batha, until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) and his parents, and they were being tortured for accepting Islam. The father of Sayyiduna Ammar (Sayyiduna Yasir, may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! How long will this continue? The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Be patient. Then he said: O Allah! Forgive the family of Yasir. (Although I know that) You have already forgiven them.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Despite forgiveness, to ask for forgiveness means the continuity of forgiveness, the humility of the one asking, and the inability to adequately thank Allah Ta’ala for this favor.
