Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sayyiduna Alaa bin Hadrami radi Allahu anhu was a companion of great stature. The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam appointed him as the governor (amil) of Bahrain. Later, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu and Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu also maintained him in this position, until he passed away during his governorship of Bahrain in the year (14 or 21) Hijri. He was a saint whose supplications were answered (mustajab al-da‘wah); after reciting a few supplications, he would enter the sea just like that. He played a significant role in the jihad against the apostates (murtaddin) in the region of Bahrain.
When the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam wrote a letter to Heraclius, after “Bismillah” he wrote as follows: “From Muhammad, the servant of Allah and His Messenger, to Heraclius, the great of Rome” (min Muhammad ‘abdillah wa rasulihi ila Hiraql ‘azim al-Rum) (from the servant and Messenger of Allah, Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, to Heraclius, the great of Rome).
That is, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam wrote his own name first. Similarly, when Sayyiduna Alaa bin Hadrami radi Allahu anhu wrote a letter to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, he also wrote: “From Alaa bin Hadrami to Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam” (min al-‘alaa bin al-hadrami ila Muhammad rasul Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
