Hadith 11842

It is narrated from Abu Ubaidah, who reports from a man, who said: I mentioned to Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) that a statement has reached me from you, and I wish to hear it directly from you. He said: Yes, that is fine. When I received news of the appearance of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I did not like his emergence; I felt intense aversion to it. I fled from here and reached the territory of Rome. The narrator of the hadith, Yazid, narrated in Baghdad: I fled from here and went to Caesar of Rome, but I became even more troubled than before. So I thought, why not go to this man? If he is a liar, he will not harm me, and if he is truthful, I will come to know. Thus, I returned and presented myself before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When I arrived, the people said: ‘Adi bin Hatim, ‘Adi bin Hatim! I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said to me three times: ‘Adi bin Hatim! Enter the fold of Islam, you will be safe. ‘Adi (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said: I am upon a religion. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I know better about your religion than you. I said: Do you know better about my religion than me? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes. Are you not from the Rukusiyyah group? (This is a group between the Christians and the Sabeans) And do you not take a fourth of the wealth from your people and eat from it? I said: Yes. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Even though this is not lawful for you in your religion. Sayyiduna ‘Adi (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned these two things, I accepted them. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I also know what is preventing you from accepting Islam. You think that those who have followed Islam are people of weak social standing, and those who have accepted Islam are people who do not possess worldly power or prestige, and the Arabs have driven these Muslims away. Do you know of Hira (a city near Kufa)? I said: I have not seen that city, but I have certainly heard about it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By the One in Whose hand is my soul! Allah will surely make this religion prevail to such an extent that a lone woman will travel from the city of Hira, without anyone’s protection or security, and will perform Tawaf of the House of Allah (the Ka‘bah) without fear, and the treasures of Kisra bin Hurmuz will surely be conquered by the Muslims. I, ‘Adi, asked in astonishment: The treasures of Kisra bin Hurmuz? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes, yes, the treasures of Kisra bin Hurmuz, and wealth will become so abundant that no one will be willing to accept it. ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) said: (According to the prophecy of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, I saw such a time of peace that) a lone woman travels from Hira without anyone’s protection or security and performs Tawaf of the House of Allah without fear, and I myself was among those who conquered the treasures of Kisra bin Hurmuz. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, the third matter will surely also be fulfilled, because this was said by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sayyiduna Adi bin Hatim bin Abdullah Tai Kufi radi Allahu anhu was a Companion. His father was famous for his generosity. He himself was a Christian by religion. When he came to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, he accepted Islam. The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to honor him. After the passing of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, when apostasy appeared among the Arabs in various forms, he remained steadfast upon Islam along with his people, and even at that time, he paid the zakat of his people. He was considered very dignified and respected among his people, and was extremely quick-witted. He was present in the conquests of Iraq during the caliphate of Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu. Then he settled in Kufa and was with Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu in the Battle of Jamal and the Battle of Siffin. He passed away in Kufa in the year 69 AH, while his age was 120 years.

The mention of the third thing is in the following narration; this will be fulfilled in the time of Isa alayhis salam. Some have considered it to have been fulfilled in the time of Umar bin Abdul Aziz.

In Sahih Bukhari (3595), the wording of this narration is as follows:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Adi bin Hatim, who says: While I was with the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, a man came to him and complained of poverty. Then another came and complained of highway robbery. So he (the Prophet) said: “O Adi, have you seen Hira?” I said: I have not seen it, but I have been informed about it. He said: “If your life is prolonged, you will surely see a woman traveling from Hira until she circumambulates the Ka‘bah, fearing none but Allah.” I said to myself: Where will the bandits of the tribe of Tai go, who have set the lands ablaze? He said: “And if your life is prolonged, you will surely conquer the treasures of Kisra.” I asked: Kisra bin Hormuz? He said: “Kisra bin Hormuz. And if your life is prolonged, you will surely see a man coming out with a handful of gold or silver, seeking someone to accept it from him, but he will find no one to accept it from him. And surely, one of you will meet Allah on the Day he meets Him, and there will be no interpreter between him and Allah to interpret for him. Allah will say to him: Did I not send a messenger to you who conveyed (the message) to you? He will say: Yes. Then He will say: Did I not give you wealth and favor you? He will say: Yes. Then he will look to his right and see nothing but Hell, and he will look to his left and see nothing but Hell.” Adi said: I heard the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam say: “Protect yourselves from the Fire, even if it be with half a date. If you do not find even that, then with a good word.” Adi said: I saw the woman traveling from Hira until she circumambulated the Ka‘bah, fearing none but Allah, and I was among those who conquered the treasures of Kisra bin Hormuz. And if your lives are prolonged, you will surely see what the Prophet Abu al-Qasim sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, that a man will come out with a handful (of gold).

We were with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam when a man came and complained to him of hunger, and another came and complained to him of robbery. So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Adi, have you seen Hira?” I said: I have not seen that place, but I have been informed about it. He sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “If your life is prolonged, you will surely see an old woman traveling from Hira until she circumambulates the Ka‘bah, fearing none but Allah.” I said to myself: Where will the bandits of the tribe of Tai go, who have set all the cities ablaze? The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “If your life is prolonged, you will surely conquer the treasures of Kisra.” I asked: Kisra bin Hormuz? He sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Yes, (Kisra bin Hormuz). And if your life is prolonged, you will surely see a man coming out with a handful of gold or silver, seeking someone to accept it, but he will find no one to accept it.” Surely, each of you will meet Allah on the Day of Resurrection, and there will be no interpreter between him and Allah to interpret his speech. Allah, the Exalted, will say to him: Did I not send a messenger to you who conveyed (the message) to you? He will say: Yes. Then Allah, the Exalted, will say: Did I not grant you wealth and favor you with children? He will say: Yes. Then he will look to his right and see nothing but Hell, and he will look to his left and see nothing but Hell. Adi radi Allahu anhu says: I heard the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam say: “Protect yourselves from the Fire, even if it be with half a date. If you cannot find even that, then with a good word.” Sayyiduna Adi radi Allahu anhu says: I saw the old woman set out from Hira and circumambulate the Ka‘bah, and she feared none but Allah, and I was among those who conquered the treasures of Kisra bin Hormuz. If your lives are prolonged, you will also see what the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, that a man will come out with a handful of gold.
