It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out from Madinah Munawwarah with the intention of fighting the polytheists. My father, Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), said to me: There is no harm if you stay with the people of Madinah and observe the outcome of this battle. By Allah! If I were not leaving my daughters behind after me, I would have preferred that you be martyred before my eyes. So I remained in Madinah Munawwarah awaiting the result of the battle, when my paternal aunt came, bringing my father and my uncle Amr bin Jamuh on a camel. I took them to Madinah Munawwarah so that I could bury them in our ancestral graveyard. Meanwhile, a caller announced: Beware! The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commands you to take the martyrs back to Uhud and bury them at the very places where they were martyred. So we took them back and buried them at their places of martyrdom.

During the caliphate of Sayyiduna Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him), a man came to me and said: O Jabir bin Abdullah! The officials of Sayyiduna Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) have opened your father's grave and his body has become exposed, and part of it has come out of the grave. When I reached there, I saw that he was in the same condition in which I had buried him; there was no change in him whatsoever, except that the wounds of his killing had changed. So I buried him again.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: ... Al-Waqidi has mentioned that Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah radi Allahu anhu wished to have a water spring (canal) pass through, so he had an announcement made that if anyone's martyr's grave comes in the way, they should come and take care of the grave and the deceased buried therein. Sayyiduna Jabir radi Allahu anhu says: I found my father lying in the grave as if he were sleeping. In the grave, his neighbor Sayyiduna Amr ibn al-Jamuh radi Allahu anhu's hand was on his wound; when it was removed, blood began to gush forth, and the fragrance of musk was emanating from their graves. This incident occurred forty-six years after their burial, that is, in forty-six years, there was no change in the deceased, nor did the earth have any effect on them.
