Fath al-Rabbani

It is narrated from Anas bin Sirin, he says: I asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): Should I recite (Qur'an) behind the Imam? He said: The recitation of the Imam is sufficient for you. I said: I recite at length in the two Sunnah rak'ahs of Fajr. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform two rak'ahs at night. I said: I have asked you about the two rak'ahs of Fajr. He said: You are a man of thick intellect, do you not see that I have just started the matter, that is, listen to the whole thing. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform two rak'ahs at night, and when he feared the coming of morning, he would perform one witr, then lie down. You may also say that he would sleep, and if you wish, you may say that he would not sleep. Then, as soon as the adhan was called, he would get up and perform these two rak'ahs, so where is the length in them? After that, I asked: If a person makes a bequest of his wealth in the way of Allah, can the expenses of Hajj also be paid from that wealth? He said: If you do so, it will also be counted in the way of Allah. I asked: If a person misses one rak'ah with the Imam, after the Imam says salam, can he stand to make up the missed rak'ah before the Imam rises? He said: When the Imam says salam, then the follower will stand. I asked: If a person receives more than his original wealth in exchange for a loan, what is its legal ruling? He said: On the Day of Resurrection, for every deceiver, a flag will be placed near his buttocks in proportion to his deception.
