It is narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah bin Fatik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Samurah is a good man; if only he would cut his hair a little shorter and keep his lower garment above the ankles." Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) immediately acted upon both matters. He shortened his hair and raised his lower garment.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This was the spirit of obedience to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in Sayyiduna Samurah bin Fatik radi Allahu anhu, that the blessed hair of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would touch his shoulders, yet the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam disliked such long hair for Sayyiduna Samurah radi Allahu anhu. There must have been a specific reason for this, such as perhaps he looked so handsome with them that it was possible he might fall into self-admiration and arrogance because of it.
The matter of the lower garment (tehband) is clear: a man has no right to cover his ankles with his lower garment.
