Hadith 11739

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: My uncle Sayyiduna ‘Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) came to me and said: Give me your weapons. I gave him my weapons. Then I went to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and submitted: O Messenger of Allah! Please grant me your weapons. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Where are your weapons? I replied: I have given them to my uncle Sayyiduna ‘Amir (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I find in your case the same example as of the one who prayed: O Allah, grant me such a brother who is dearer to me than my own life. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me his bow, shields, and three arrows from his quiver.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … By presenting this parable, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam indicated that Sayyiduna Salamah gave preference to his uncle over himself, even though he himself was also in need of a weapon. In reality, Sayyiduna Salamah radi Allahu anhu is being praised.
