A long hadith is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her), in which it is mentioned: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him): You have given such a verdict regarding Banu Qurayza that Allah Almighty and His Messenger also approved of this verdict. After this, Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) made a supplication and said: O Allah! If You have kept any battle with Quraysh for Your Prophet, then keep me alive to participate in it, and if You have completed the series of battles between Your Prophet and Quraysh, then take me to Yourself. After this supplication, his wound burst open, although it had completely healed, only a minor wound the size of a ring’s circle remained. Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) returned to the tent which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had set up for him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went to him. By the One in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! I was in my chamber and I could distinctly recognize the crying voices of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Their mutual relationship was just as Allah Almighty has said: {رُحَمَاءُبَیْنَہُمْ} … They are extremely merciful to one another. (Surah Al-Fath: 29) Alqama, who narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), asked: Mother! What was the practice of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on such occasions? She said: Tears would not come to your eyes at someone’s death, but when you were grieved, you would hold your blessed beard in your hand.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … According to the statement of Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha, the fact that the eyes of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did not shed tears at the time of death pertains to the predominant and most frequent circumstances; otherwise, it is established that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did weep and shed tears on occasions of bereavement.
It is established that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam shed tears at the passing of his beloved son Ibrahim (Sahih Bukhari: 1303), wept when he went to visit Sa’d bin Ubadah during his illness (Sahih Bukhari: 1304), and appeared sorrowful upon receiving the news of the martyrdom of Ja’far, Zayd bin Harithah, and Abdullah bin Rawahah (Sahih Bukhari: 1305).
