Hadith 11731

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the people of Banu Qurayza agreed to the decision of Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a message to Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) and called him. He came riding on a donkey. When he reached near Masjid Nabawi, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stand up and go to your chief," or he said, "Stand up and go to your leader (and help him dismount from the donkey)." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him): "These Jewish people have agreed to have you decide their case." Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him), while making the decision, said: "Their fighting men should be killed and their children and women should be taken as captives." Upon hearing this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have given the decision of Allah regarding them (i.e., the decision you have made is also approved by Allah)." And at another time, Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "You have given a kingly decision."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … On the occasion of the Battle of the Trench (Ghazwah al-Khandaq), Banu Qurayzah broke their covenant with the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. When he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam besieged them as retribution for their crime, they agreed to accept the judgment of Sayyiduna Sa'd radi Allahu anhu. However, the poor souls did not realize that they were, in effect, cutting their own throats with their own knife.
