عَنِ ابْنِ سَابِطٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ أَبْطَأْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ ”مَا حَبَسَكِ يَا عَائِشَةُ“ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ رَجُلًا مَا رَأَيْتُ أَحَدًا أَحْسَنَ قِرَاءَةً مِنْهُ قَالَ فَذَهَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَإِذَا هُوَ سَالِمٌ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ”الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ فِي أُمَّتِي مِثْلَكَ“
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: I was delayed in presenting myself before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he inquired: Aisha! Why are you late? She said: O Messenger of Allah! There was a man in the mosque; I have never heard anyone recite more beautifully than him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went and saw that it was Sayyiduna Abu Hudhaifa’s (may Allah be pleased with him) freed slave, Sayyiduna Salim (may Allah be pleased with him). Upon seeing him, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Praise be to Allah, Who has created people like you in my Ummah.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … A noteworthy point here is: upon which attribute is the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam expressing amazement at a slave, and thanking Allah Ta'ala that He has produced such praiseworthy individuals in his sallallahu alayhi wa sallam’s ummah? That attribute was none other than this: that he would recite the Noble Qur’an with a beautiful voice. If only our inclinations and tendencies would also be shaped in accordance with this disposition.
