It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: Do you know the Syriac language well? Letters come to me in this language. I replied: No. He said: Then you should learn this language well. So I learned this language well in seventeen days.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In Madinah, there were Jews who knew the Syriac language. When a letter would be received by the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in this language, he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would have to seek help from the Jews to understand what was written in it and how to reply to it. However, he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did not have trust in this people. Therefore, he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam assigned the responsibility to Sayyiduna Zayd radi Allahu anhu to learn this language. He fulfilled this responsibility within fifteen or sixteen days.
