It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The reason for our non-participation in the Battle of Badr was that my father, Sayyiduna Husayl (may Allah be pleased with him), and I were on our way when the disbelievers of Quraysh captured us. They said, "You are going to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." We said, "We are going to Madinah." They made us swear by Allah and took a firm pledge from us that we would go to Madinah and would not participate in the fighting against them alongside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). We went to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and related the entire incident. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Both of you go; we will fulfill the covenant and agreement made with them and seek Allah's help against them."
