عَنْ بُرَيْدَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَعْنَاهُ وَفِيهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِبِلَالٍ ”بِمَ سَبَقْتَنِي إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ“ فَقَالَ مَا أُحْدِثُ إِلَّا تَوَضَّأْتُ وَصَلَّيْتُ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ”بِهَذَا“
Sayyiduna Buraidah Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated a hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) similar in meaning to the previous hadith, except that it contains this clarification: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him): "By virtue of which deed did you reach Paradise before me?" He replied: "I do not perform any special deed, except that whenever I become impure (lose ablution), I perform ablution and then offer two units of prayer." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is because of this deed."

Benefits: … From these two hadiths, it is established that the characteristic of Sayyiduna Bilal (radi Allahu anhu) was that whenever he was without ablution (wudu), he would perform ablution and offer two units (rak‘ah) of prayer.
Among the general public, it is only commonly known that Sayyiduna Bilal (radi Allahu anhu) used to regularly perform the prayer of greeting the ablution (tahiyyat al-wudu’), but his complete practice was that whenever he became without ablution, he would immediately perform ablution.
