Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From this chapter, the virtues and merits of Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik radi Allahu anhu are known, and it is also understood that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had special relations and connections with the household of Anas. He would visit them from time to time.

Imam al-Albani, while referencing a hadith, also mentioned this narration: Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik radi Allahu anhu says: My mother took me to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and said: O Messenger of Allah! This is your small servant, so supplicate to Allah for him. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: O Allah! Increase his wealth and children, lengthen his life, and forgive his sins.

Sayyiduna Anas radi Allahu anhu says: I have buried ninety-eight or one hundred and two individuals from among my children, and my trees would bear fruit twice a year, and I lived such a long life that I became weary of life (and in one narration, due to my long life) I would feel shy before people. (These three supplications were fulfilled, and now) I hope for the acceptance of the fourth supplication (which pertained to my forgiveness). (Ibn Sa'd: 7/19, al-Adab al-Mufrad by al-Bukhari: 653)

It is understood from this that it is permissible to supplicate for long life for a person, as is the custom among the people of some regions of Arabia. (Sahihah: 2241)

These blessed ahadith are among the signs of Prophethood. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam made four supplications; the three that pertained to this world were fulfilled within the first century of Hijrah, while forgiveness pertains to the Hereafter, for which acceptance is hoped.

Sayyiduna Anas radi Allahu anhu lived for ninety-nine, or one hundred and three, or one hundred and seven years; the second opinion is more correct. He was the last Companion to pass away in Basra in the year ninety-one or ninety-three Hijri. Among the Companions, he had the most children. By the year 75 AH, when Hajjaj came to Basra, more than one hundred and twenty of his sons and daughters had already been buried, and the number of those who remained alive was more than one hundred. Allah Almighty also placed great blessing in his wealth; among the Ansar, he was the wealthiest. In one of his gardens, fruit would appear twice a year, and it had such flowers from which the fragrance of musk would emanate. Abu Nu'aym has narrated in al-Hilyah the statement of Sayyiduna Anas radi Allahu anhu: In my land, fruit would appear twice a year; in our region, no other land had this distinction.
