It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy ibn Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in prayer and, by mistake, omitted a verse. Afterwards, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Did any of you notice my mistake in the recitation?" Sayyiduna Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah! I realized it; you left out such-and-such verse." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I knew that if anyone would notice it, it would be you."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … At times, the forgetfulness of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is a human trait; it does not affect the station of Prophethood. Just as there are a few instances of forgetfulness in his sallallahu alayhi wa sallam’s prayer as well, the reality is that he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is not left upon that forgetfulness; rather, it is immediately rectified.
