Hadith 11608

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the ‘Isha prayer one night towards the end of his life, and then stood up and said: Tonight, whoever living being is present on the face of this earth, after one hundred years, not a single one of them will remain alive. Sayyiduna Abdullah (bin Umar) (may Allah be pleased with him) says that upon hearing this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), everyone was left astonished and began to discuss various things regarding the ahadith related to one hundred years, whereas the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said that those people who are present on the face of the earth today, after one hundred years, not a single one of them will remain alive, meaning this generation and era will come to an end.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam made various prophecies regarding the future; one such prophecy is mentioned in the above ahadith.

The meaning of all these narrations is that all the people who were present during the last period of the blessed life of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would all pass away within one hundred years, that is, within a hundred years this era and generation would come to an end—and this is exactly what happened.

Hafiz Ibn Hajar said: “And so it occurred, as is established by investigation. The last person whose circumstances were recorded, who was present at that time, was Abu al-Tufayl ‘Amir ibn Wathilah radi Allahu anhu. The scholars of hadith are unanimous that he was the last of the Companions to pass away. The most that has been said regarding his late demise is that he remained until the year 110 AH, which is the beginning of the one hundredth year from the statement of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and Allah knows best.” … And in reality, this is exactly what happened: thus, the last Companion whose circumstances were recorded and who was present at that time was Sayyiduna Abu al-Tufayl ‘Amir ibn Wathilah radi Allahu anhu. The hadith scholars agree that he was the last of the Companions to pass away. The most that has been said regarding his late demise is that he passed away in 110 AH (and not at the end of the first century), so the statement of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam regarding one hundred years was fulfilled with his passing. And Allah knows best. (Fath al-Bari: 2/95)
