Hadith 11604

عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كُنَّا نَتَحَدَّثُ أَنَّ عِدَّةَ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانُوا يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ عَلَى عِدَّةِ أَصْحَابِ طَالُوتَ يَوْمَ جَالُوتَ ثَلَاثَ مِائَةٍ وَبِضْعَةَ عَشَرَ الَّذِينَ جَاوَزُوا مَعَهُ النَّهْرَ قَالَ وَلَمْ يُجَاوِزْ مَعَهُ النَّهْرَ إِلَّا مُؤْمِنٌ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We used to say that on the day of Badr, the number of the noble Companions was the same as the number of Talut’s companions on the day of Jalut, that is, three hundred and fourteen or fifteen individuals, who crossed the river with Talut, and only the believers crossed the river.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Some time after the death of Musa (alayhis salam), at the request of Banu Isra'il, Talut was appointed as king. However, as was their habit, Banu Isra'il began to object to his kingship. The mention of this very king is found at the end of the second juz'.
