It is narrated from Riyah bin Harith that Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting in the Great Mosque and the people of Kufa were seated to his right and left. In the meantime, Sayyiduna Sa’id bin Zayd came to him, and Sayyiduna Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) welcomed him and seated him beside himself at the foot of his cot. Then another man from Kufa came. He turned towards Sayyiduna Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) and began to speak very harshly. Sayyiduna Sa’id said: O Mughirah! Whom is he speaking ill of? He replied that he is cursing Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: O Mughir bin Shu’bah, O Mughir bin Shu’bah, O Mughir bin Shu’bah! Do I not hear that in your presence the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) are being cursed, but you neither object to it nor stop anyone from it? I bear witness that I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), my heart has well remembered it, and I am not one to fabricate a lie against the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for which he would question me at the time of meeting. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Abu Bakr is in Paradise, Umar is in Paradise, Ali is in Paradise, Uthman is in Paradise, Talhah is in Paradise, Zubair is in Paradise, Abdur Rahman bin Awf is in Paradise, Sa’d bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) is in Paradise, and the ninth among the believers to embrace Islam is in Paradise. If I wish, I can mention his name. Riyah says: Upon hearing this, the people of the mosque began to say loudly: O Companion of the Messenger of Allah! We beseech you by Allah, tell us who the ninth person is? He said: Now that you have asked me by Allah, I will tell you: By Allah the Almighty, I am the ninth among the believers, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is the tenth among them. After this, he swore another oath and said: If a man participated in a battle with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and dust settled on his face in it, he is superior to all your lifetime deeds, even if you were given the lifespan of Noah.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Many Companions were given the glad tidings of Paradise. The ten Companions who are referred to as the "Asharah Mubasharah" are those ten individuals to whom the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gave the glad tidings of Paradise on a single occasion. In this hadith, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is also counted among these ten, whereas in other hadiths, only the names of the ten Companions are mentioned. Those ten noble Companions are as follows:
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar, Sayyiduna Ali, Sayyiduna Uthman, Sayyiduna Talhah, Sayyiduna Zubair, Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman ibn Awf, Sayyiduna Sa’d ibn Malik, Sayyiduna Sa’id ibn Zayd, Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah radi Allahu anhum.
