It is narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man submitted: O Messenger of Allah! I saw in a dream that a bucket was lowered from the sky. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came and held the bucket from both sides and drank a little water from it, and there was some weakness in his drinking. After him, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came and held the bucket from both sides and drank to his fill. After him, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) came, he also held the bucket from both sides, and there was some trembling in it. Some drops from it fell upon Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In the narration of Musnad Ahmad, one sentence is omitted; it is possible that this mistake occurred from the scribe or the publisher. Without this sentence, the meaning of the hadith is not understood. The narration in Sunan Abu Dawud is complete; in it, after mentioning Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu, it is stated as follows: Then Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu came and he grasped the bucket from both sides and drank water to his fill. Then Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu arrived and he also took hold of the bucket from both sides, but there was some trembling in it. Some drops from it splashed onto Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu. The weakness of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu refers to the shortness of his caliphate, which was a little more than two years. The satiation of Sayyiduna Umar and Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhuma refers to the length of their caliphates, which were approximately ten years and twelve years, respectively. The trembling refers to the brevity of Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu’s caliphate, which was four years and nine months.
