It is narrated from Sayyiduna Nafi’ bin ‘Abd al-Harith, he says: I went with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, until he entered a garden among the gardens of Madinah Munawwarah, which had a wall built around it. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me: Stay at the door. And he himself went and sat on the edge of a well, letting his feet hang inside the well. Someone knocked at the door. I asked: Who is it? The visitor said: I am Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Abu Bakr has come. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allow him to enter and give him glad tidings of Paradise. I allowed him to enter and gave him the glad tidings of Paradise. He came and sat with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in the same manner, hanging his feet into the well and sitting on the edge of the well. After a while, the door was knocked again. I asked: Who is it? He said: I am ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him. I said: O Messenger of Allah! ‘Umar has come. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allow him to enter and give him glad tidings of Paradise. I allowed him to enter and gave him the glad tidings of Paradise. He came and sat with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, hanging his feet into the well and sitting on the edge of the well. Then after a while, the door was knocked again. I asked: Who is it? They said: I am ‘Uthman. I said: O Messenger of Allah! ‘Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, has come. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allow him to enter and give him glad tidings of Paradise, but after some trial. I also allowed him to enter and gave him the glad tidings of Paradise. He too came and sat with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, (in front of him) hanging his feet into the well and sitting on the edge of the well.
