Hadith 11575

It is narrated from ‘Abd Khayr that Sayyiduna ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) stood on the pulpit and mentioned the virtues of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) departed from this world, after him Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was chosen as the caliph. He carried out all affairs according to the practice of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and continued to follow his way, until Allah the Exalted called him to Himself. After him, Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was chosen as the caliph. He too carried out affairs according to the practice of his two predecessors and continued to follow their way, until Allah the Exalted called him to Himself, and he remained firm upon that methodology.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Many ahadith regarding the virtues and merits of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu and Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu are narrated from Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu. In the last hadith of the chapter, Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu has declared the caliphate of both these personalities and their methodology to be in accordance with the way of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. From this, it is understood that Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu had absolutely no objection to the caliphate of the first two caliphs or to any of their matters.
