It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Sayyida Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her) returned from Abyssinia, Sayyiduna Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) met her. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said about her: Is this the one who came from Abyssinia? She replied: Yes. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If people had not preceded you in migration, you would have been the best of people. Hearing this, she said to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): You people stayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); if any of you was deprived of a mount, meaning he was on foot, the Messenger of Allah would provide him with a mount, and if any of you was unaware of religious matters, the Messenger of Allah would teach him. But we fled from here to save our religion. Now, I will not return until I mention this matter to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So she went to his service and informed him of this. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: Rather, you have two migrations, one towards Madinah and one towards Abyssinia.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The virtue and merit of the emigrants to Abyssinia is also established, for they will receive the reward of two migrations: they migrated once to Abyssinia and a second time to Madinah Munawwarah.
It is as if the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not support the view of Umar ibn Khattab (radi Allahu anhu), who wished to say that they (the emigrants to Madinah) had migrated before those who went to Abyssinia. Rather, he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) also considered the journey to Abyssinia as migration (hijrah) for the sake of Allah, and regarded Asma and the rest of the caravan as those who performed two migrations.
