Hadith 11559

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Muhajirun said: O Messenger of Allah! The Ansar people we have come to, we have not seen people like them. If they have little food and drink, they show great sympathy, and if they have plenty, they spend generously. They saved us from hard labor and made us partners in their earnings. We fear that these people will take all the reward. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: No, it is not so. As long as you praise them and pray to Allah for them, you will also continue to receive reward.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is understood that if a person does not possess anything with which to repay a favor, then he should express gratitude verbally in a good manner, and say words of praise in such a way that the one who has done the favor is encouraged. However, in praising, there should be neither exaggeration nor should the one who has done the favor be led into ostentation (riya’).
