Hadith 11517

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept his sword Zulfiqar as a gift (or from the spoils of war) on the day of the Battle of Badr. This is the same sword about which you saw a dream on the day of Uhud, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I saw a notch in my sword Zulfiqar; its interpretation is that you will face defeat. I saw that I had mounted a ram behind me; I interpreted this as the brave one of the army will be martyred. I saw that I was wearing a secure coat of mail; I interpreted this as Madinah will remain protected. I saw that a cow was being slaughtered; by Allah, this is better. Whatever the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, that is exactly what happened.

Brief Explanation
In the case of the camel being slaughtered, the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Talhah bin Abu Talhah radi Allahu anhu was indicated, who was carrying the flag on that day. And in the case of the cow being slaughtered, the martyrdom of seventy men from among the noble Companions radi Allahu anhum was signified. And Madinah proved to be the best refuge; after defeat and martyrdom, the Muslims were ultimately honored. And among your household, the martyrdom of the Chief of Martyrs, Sayyiduna Hamzah radi Allahu anhu, was shown in the case of the ram being slaughtered.
