It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) sent a member of Banu Makhzum to collect charity, so he said to Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him): “Get ready to go with me so that you may also receive a share.” He replied: “No, I will not go until I ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).” So he went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and asked him about this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: “It is not lawful for us to take charity, and a slave of a people is considered one of them.”
