Hadith 11479

It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: I have not seen anyone prepare food like Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyida Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), she sent a bowl of food to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). In another narration, the words are that on that day the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was with me, and due to jealousy I could not control myself and I broke that bowl. I said: O Messenger of Allah! What is the expiation for this now? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A bowl like the (broken) bowl and food like the (spilled) food.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The wives of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would be mindful of his wishes and would strive to attain his pleasure. If he was at the house of another wife, they would send food and such things there so that he could partake of the meal.

Like ordinary women, the Mothers of the Believers (Ummahat al-Mu’minin) would also feel jealousy towards one another; this is such a natural matter that it is hardly possible to control it. For this reason, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did not pay much attention to it. It is said that a woman can encompass the whole world within herself, but she cannot encompass a co-wife.
