Hadith 11429

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) that the wives of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me that, representing them, I should go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and say to him that he should command the people that wherever he may be, that is, whichever wife’s house he is at, people should send their gifts there. People used to wait for Sayyida Aisha’s (may Allah be pleased with her) turn to send their gifts and presents. Just as Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) likes such things, we also like them. So I went and said: O Messenger of Allah! My companions, that is, your wives, have told me to speak to you about this matter, that you should command the people that wherever you may be, they should send their gifts to you there. People keep waiting for Sayyida Aisha’s (may Allah be pleased with her) turn to send their gifts. We also like goodness just as Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) likes it. Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) says: Upon hearing my words, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent and did not reply to me. When my companions came to me, I told them that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say anything to me in response. They said: Do not leave the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) like this and speak to him again about this matter. What is the benefit of your remaining silent? Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) says: After that, I went again to meet the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and I repeated the same thing and said that my co-wives have told me to speak to you about this matter, that you should command the people that wherever you may be, that is, at whichever wife’s house, people should send their gifts there. Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) spoke to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about this matter two or three times. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent each time. Finally, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Umm Salama! Do not hurt me regarding Aisha by saying such things. By Allah! The status and rank of Aisha is such that, except for her bed, revelation has never descended upon me in the bed of any other wife. Upon hearing this, Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I seek refuge with Allah from ever saying anything about Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that would hurt your heart.
