Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) was present with us, and during a part of the night, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came. Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) mentioned an act which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did with his hand (as a husband and wife do with each other). He was unaware of the presence of Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her). Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I began to gesture to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) until he understood the matter. Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Has this started happening now? Is any one of us wives deceived in your eyes, as I am seeing, and she also spoke harshly to Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept stopping her, but she did not stop. Eventually, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): Now you speak. When she spoke, she prevailed over her. Then Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) went to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyida Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her) and told them that Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) had spoken harshly to her and had also said such things about them. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyida Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her): Go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and tell him that Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) has said such things about us. Sayyida Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her) went to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of this matter. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: By the Lord of the Ka’bah! She is the beloved of your father. Hearing this, Sayyida Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her) returned to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and mentioned the words of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to him. Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) complained to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Is it not enough from your side that Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) has said such things about us and Sayyida Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her) has also mentioned them to you (and you did not take any notice of these words), and only said: By the Lord of the Ka’bah! She is the beloved of your father.
