Sayyiduna Urwah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), after the passing of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), demanded from Amir al-Mu’minin Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he give her share from the property of Fay’ left by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said to her that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Our inheritance is not distributed among heirs. Whatever we leave behind is charity.” Upon hearing this, Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) became upset and broke off communication with Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). This continued until her death. Urwah says that Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) lived for six months after the passing of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
